Westering believes that sport plays a vital role in the school curriculum, aiding not only in the physical development of scholars, but also in the development of their characters. Compulsory attendance is expected at a minimum of one summer or one winter sport each year in grade 10 to 12. In grade 8 and 9 pupils must participate in one winter and one summer sport.

Westering High School is well represented at Provincial level in all sports offered. Our pupils receive enthusiastic coaching, and are fortunate to benefit from the expertise given by many of our staff who are themselves EP and SA representatives. To accommodate the number and depth of teams WHS employs experienced outside coaches in order to maintain a high standard.

All sporting disciplines are entered into the Interschool leagues. Our winter programme includes a busy schedule of Derby days against local schools and Cambridge in East London. Westering High is the proud organiser of a bi-annual  Sports Festival, at which we host approximately 15 schools from around South Africa.

Sport tours are regarded as high priority for all sporting codes. Previous tours have included trips to Nambia, Natal, Capetown etc. In 2006 WHS the 1st girls hockey and 1st Rugby toured Argentina, South America.

In 2008 Westering High School took a Netball and 2 Hockey teams to England.

All sporting codes participate in annual Inter-house competitions for which a sports shield is awarded to the winning house at our annual prize-giving.

Westering High School boasts excellent facilities, which include a Sports’ Centre, 2 hockey fields and an astro turf with full flood light system, 3 tennis courts, 5 netball courts, 2 cricket fields, 2 rugby fields and 9 cricket nets. We make use of the Londt Park squash courts and golf driving range and the local swimming pool.
